Cargar tu coche eléctrico pronto será tan rápido como llenar el depósito / Charging your electric car will be as fast as filling the tank soon

Following a collaborative agreement, BMW, Daimler AG, Ford and Volkswagen groups will set 400 superfast loading points next year on European motorways and highways. By 2020 there will be thousands of specific service stations.
The big car manufacturers are definitely betting on the electric car. The leaders of the BMW, Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz, Smart ...), Ford and Volkswagen groups (with Audi, Porsche, SEAT, Skoda ...) are committed to creating Europe's most powerful and fast charging network to help the use of plug-in cars on the road.
The direct consequence of this agreement will be the deployment of a remarkable number of specific recharging points on motorways and highways, an essential step to facilitate the massive implementation of electric models. Mobility without emissions is slowed to a large extent, because the autonomy of the batteries does not allow displacements of hundreds of kilometers.
As it has been established the network will offer power levels up to 350 kW and will be significantly faster than the majority of load systems that are available today.
Next year, the deployment will begin, with 400 freight stations across Europe. Three years later, by 2020, the goal is about let user’s access to thousands of high-power points, although signatories have not specified a certain number.
The network will be based on standard Combined Freight System (CCS) technology, which will allow the freight experience to evolve until being as practical as refueling at conventional service stations.
Electric battery vehicles ready to accept the full power of the new charging stations can be recharged, no matter what brand they are, in a few minutes. “We intend to create a network that allows our users to take a break to drink coffee and recharge the car”, says Rupert Stadler, chairman of Audi's Board of Directors.
“This charging network gives drivers another powerful argument for approaching electric mobility”, says Harald Krüeger, chairman of BMW's Board of Management. One sector, electric, will gain significant weight in the next decade if the big companies bet on it.
“The advancement of electric mobility requires two things: convincing vehicles and a large infrastructure. We are launching our electric product raid: by 2025, our catalog will include more than ten fully electric passenger cars”, says Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Daimler AG and director of Mercedes-Benz.
Beyond this agreement (open to other collaborating partners in the future), manufacturers are also working to improving their car batteries to achieve autonomies that allow long distance trips. At the moment, the actual battery life reaches 350 kilometers, but there are brands that promise autonomy up to 600 kilometers in a short time.

El BMW i3 en tu muñeca / The BMW i3 on your wrist

As we said last week, inventions that seemed be part of the future are slowly coming to our life.
Now it's the turn of the BMW i3. It has been recently presented an application to control the i3 from the Galaxy Gear, Samsung Smartwatch. This application, compatible with the watch, is similar to the one that is installed on the phone and it allows remotely interaction with the car, "Knight Rider” pure style.
We can check the status of the recharge, the autonomy or check if windows and sunroof are closed. It will be also possible (among many other features) the climate control or lock the car.
One of the more commented points, since we know this vehicle, is the price; however we are going to do a little calculation:

Nowadays, the average price of fuel is: 1.51 euro per liter of gasoline and 1.48 euro per liter of diesel. Taking into account that the average consumption of a diesel vehicle is around 5.7 liters per 100km and the consumption of a gasoline vehicle is 6.5 liters per 100km, we have the following information:

The owner of a diesel model that makes a daily route of 60km will spend around 3.42 liters per day, what it is the same; 5.06 euros daily. The owner of a gasoline model, with the same route, will spend 3.9 liters or 5.88 euros per day.
To the owner of an i3, being realistic, are guaranteed around 150 km per charge and a full charge costs 2.5 euros more or less. This means that to make the same 60 km daily route we would need 1 euro. Comparing with a gasoline or diesel vehicle, with the i3 we can save almost 5 euros per day in fuel. Could be interesting?

It seems clear which is the current trend…is slowly, but in a firm way all electrical devices are being established in markets.

When the autonomy increases and prices fall, we will see growing this market and the expansion will be evident.

Next November will be on sale the BMWi3, the first new electric car between at least 5 more that are expected to be launched during 2014. Thanks to Government grants, prices will be adjusted more to conventional vehicles.

One of the most interesting points of this new trend is the possibility of reaching a day when pollution by automobiles may decrease in an obvious way, that day; the waiting time will have been worth it.
