How an electric car MOT is?

If the gas test is so important and the plug-ins are zero emissions, what about this procedure? The answer is simple and forceful: they simply do not do it, the rest of the inspection is identical to the combustion vehicles.

Electric cars are required to MOT like any other vehicle. Technical inspection in plug-in models is very similar, but not the same as the one established for combustion vehicles.

At the moment, there is no law that regulates what tests electric cars must overcome to prove they are right. Therefore, what MOT stations have done was adapting the current tests to the particular characteristics of vehicles that run on electricity.

Electric cars are required to MOT like any other vehicle.

Once at the station, it is subjected to the same tests with two caveats: it does not have to pass neither the emission test nor the loudness test.

In fact, the suppression of these two procedures in MOT is a no-brainer since the main characteristic of this type of vehicles is not emitting polluting gases (hence they are allowed to travel by city even at maximum moments of pollution) and are totally silent.

Specific MOT for electric cars

Perhaps by the time the new MOT comes into force (in 2018 and with tougher tests) the DGT shows its intention to launch a specific technical inspection for electric cars.

MOT for electric cars will have no emission or loudness test, but it should have inspections to ensure the correct operation of electric systems that propel vehicles such as the battery, alternator...

Some small slip-ups could be great dramas: wrong fuel, forgetting oil or not watching the wheel has consequences.

1. Wrong fuel
It seems difficult to happen, but it does. It is one of the most common mistakes in your car. If it happens and you soon realize, it is best that you will inform the insurance crane to carry the car to the garage and there emptying   the tank. If you react later, the thing will be more serious. As start-ups, you'll notice the engine pulls and eventually stopping. You will need cleaning tank and conduits, besides replacing the fuel filter.
2. Finish off the tank too much
The fuel pump has to work much harder to absorb the fuel, then air bubbles are formed. The shelf life is shortened.
In addition, the pump absorbs the tank bottom sediments, which end up in the filter and injectors.

3. Forgetting to check the wheels

The tire pressure is essential, but, according to the DGT, we usually forget it: 27% of the cars suffer a very high risk of having an accident as a result of the deterioration of its wheels.

If deflated tires it is much higher. And the car grip is greatly reduced.

4. Do not look at the oil level

We must renew the lubricant when prompted by the vehicle owner's manual and check the level every 3,000 kilometers, and we must always do it before a long journey. The consequences of not changing the oil could be serious because the ability to lubricate is lost and the mechanical parts suffer a premature waste.

5. Letting the lights on

It is not one of the most economically serious mistakes but can be very uncomfortable. If you forget the lights on for several hours, it is more than likely (almost certain) that the battery to be fully discharged and to boot would be impossible.

6. Ignore indicators

Forgetting a warning on the instrument panel could be severe. You must heed the warnings of the car, remember them and refer to the instruction manual. It is better to solve in time a fault than being sorry later.

La DGT busca reducir accidentes con 7 medidas clave / The DGT wants to reduce accidents with 7 key measures

The DGT has presented a 7.2 million euros package of interventions for the coming months.
The latest data of road accidents in Spain (295 fatalities this year, with 349 victims) have prompted the DGT to present a package of seven measures to be developed in the coming months with a 7.2 million euros investment. These are the seven interventions DGT expects to reduce accidents mainly on conventional roads between motorists and commercial vehicles.
BELTS ROUGH
3,000 kilometers of sonorous rumble strips will be installed during the next five months. Placed longitudinally in the direction of travel and both central axis and verges, they should help warn drivers about distractions.
MORE CONTINUOUS LINES
Overtaking areas are going to be limited in 1,000 kilometers of conventional roads. Double solid lines are going to be implemented to avoid undue overtaking, estimating a twenty victims reduction per year in frontal collisions. The operation will also take place in the next five months, with one million euros invest.
SURVEILLANCE SAFETY CLEARANCE
Surveillance on the safety distance is going to be supported through helicopter flights at low altitude, with the intention of making them visible to drivers, which also will be warned by the panels of the road. With 5,000 euros investment, it is expected to reduce in five victims caused by scope and multiple collisions.
BIKER CONTROLS
Routes frequented by bikers are going to have an intensified surveillance, with integral controls to drivers. There will be special emphasis to Technic Inspection.
TRAFFIC NIGHT DEAL
DGT will perform continuous speed controls at night, especially on routes frequented by delivery vehicles. The vans will be identified and their drivers will be tested for alcohol, drugs and documentation. 30,000 euros will be employed in this action with the aim of reducing ten deaths per year.
PEDESTRIAN SIGNALS STRETCH
Sections frequented by pedestrians are going to have luminous beacons installed in the corners and a button that will allow pedestrians to warn vehicles of their presence. One hundred signs will be placed at fifty sections in the next seven months with a cost of 100,000 euros.
DANGEROUS CROSSROADS
Other twenty deaths per year should reduce at dangerous crossings. Forty of them are going to be signaled with a light system, with an investment of one million euros to indicate more clearly the risks to drivers.
